Lake Garda

One Night in Lago di Garda

Italy's largest lake.

Having a shore length of 158.4 km, Lake Garda is a popular holiday destination located in Northern Italy.

Garda town

Getting There: Verona to Garda Town

Road signs
From Verona, you can either ride the train or the bus. For us, the bus 164 from Stazione Verona Porta Nuova is more practical because not only is the ticket a whole lot cheaper than that of the train, but the route is scenic and we don't have to change as the bus will be able to drop us off the station in the main road/highway which is just about 3-minute walk to our hotel. The travel time is roughly an hour and 10 minutes. You can purchase the ticket in the train station or in the bus.

Going Around

It is very easy to go around the towns along Lago di Garda by using the bus. Walking from one town to another is also an option, as well as cycling.

Crossing the lake is possible by riding the ferries.

Where we stayed: Casa Lady

Views from the hotel room

If you don't intend to stay long in Lake Garda, I suggest booking somewhere along the lake as the view is splendid and is definitely worth it. We booked one night in Casa Lady which is situated right in front of the Lake. It was also just a stone throw away from the restaurants and shops in Garda's small town centre. The place was very ideal as it was easy for us to go back to the hotel and go out and enjoy Garda town.

Hotel breakfast with a great view of Lake Garda
Apart from the very comfortable suite with beautiful lake views, I genuinely enjoyed the included good breakfast on the outside seating area. It was really relaxing to have your morning coffee whilst enjoying the wonderful view of the lake and the town.

What to do:

Since we only have one night to spare in Lake Garda, after checking in at the hotel and having a quick lunch in a Thai restaurant nearby, we immediately set out to walk around the lake and found ourself a quiet spot by the lake to lay down our stuff and cool off the heat by swimming in the lake.

Garda town - Along Lake Garda

Walking along Lake Garda
At sunset, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up and went out for a good steak dinner in town. We then had some drinks while sitting on one of the benches along the lake, and enjoyed quietly watching the town, and the people as they pass us by.

Lake Garda at night

Garda town at night
The next day, we had a great buffet breakfast at the hotel front along the lake, checked out and wandered around Garda town.

Church in Garda town

We had lunch and then headed to the station to catch our bus back to Peschiera del Garda train station where we're taking a train to Milan.

There are so many other things to do in Lake Garda, depending on what your interests are. Here are some:

- water sports: sailing and wind-surfing, diving
- fishing

Lake Garda
- cycling along the lake or from town to town
- hiking and rock climbing
- swimming

Lounge by the lake
- food tripping

Thai lunch

Seafood lunch

Walk along the lake
- theme parks like Gardaland

When I go back to Lake Garda, I'll make sure to stay longer so as to be able to enjoy the place and do more activities.

Hike/climb the mountains at the rear
Sit on the shade and people-watch
Sit and just relax
