For my first backpacking trip of Asia, I booked an entry flight to Cambodia and an exit flight from Viet Nam. To explore these two country's histories and culture, I traversed the former starting from the northwestern capital of Siem Reap going down to the country's capital city, Phnom Penh. And then I crossed the border to Viet Nam by land to it's capital city of Ho Chi Minh, booked a flight to the ancient capital of Hue, traveled southeast to the provinces of Da Nang and Hoi An, and finally, went back to Ho Chi Minh City. For this trip, I only spent 300 USD, excluding the airfare.
I did not do extensive research on these two countries because I wanted to be surprised by whatever it will give me. So here goes our 9 day journey through the Khmer empire and Viet Nam.
